Did you guys see this episode. I was laughing at how much I could relate to this. It's too bad they didn't show Barney explaining the dynamic of the hook. He would've explained so much better than me but I guess i'll have to try my best.
The dynamics of being on the hook: When someone paints a picture of some magical time in the future when everything works out. Giving you that little glimmering shine of hope that you have a chance with that person. Like the phrase 'Right Now.' 'I'd love to be with you but I can't.... Right now.' You thought you had closure and then they leave that tiny crack open to hook you in.... Leaving you at that hooked state.
Are you a hooker (
) ? or are you hooked? I have been one to be a hooker but only once...I think
. And I'm pretty sure if I know I don't want to be with this girl, I tell them. It would save their time from trying. I think what's worse is being on the hook. That helpless feeling hoping to be something more with that person. They keep shoving you away but in the end they always leave that tiny bit of light that you can't help but follow. Drives my head through the wall.
Although hooked. You can remove yourself from the hook. One way is self realization. My best friend once told me, "if she wanted you, she could've had you a long time ago." The fact that they haven't done anything themselves is enough proof that you don't need to deal with that kind of nuisance.
Or the latter. Confonting the hooker. Walk up to her, ask how m-... And ask her where this is going... and find a straight answer. Make sure the door is completely closed. Knowing that there is nothing else worth fighting for. Then move on with life.
Given the variables... the chances that any of those advices working may be less likely. You see and hear everything around you. But you are the one who decides what affects you. Too bad there isn't a protocol in life, but that's what makes it so entertaining.
